| Dunlap. A community on NM 20 34 mi SW of Ft.Sumner. Named for W. O. Dunlap, founder and locater for early settlers. After the early boom of land filing, Dunlap soon was left behind when the settlers failed to make a living on their claims. Town is now an inland supply point for ranchers, on the highway between Roswell and Ft.Sumner. One of the early settlers to the Dunlap area was rancher Jack McWhorter, a pillar of the community until his death in the 1960's. Submitted by: Samuel W McWhorter |
