COPPER BASIN

NAME: Copper Basin
COUNTY: Lander
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Current mining.

Copper Basin got its start in 1897 and is still operating today. In between then and now, there was considerable activity on and off throughout the years until 1967 when the Duval Corporation, now known as the Battle Mountain Gold Company, reopened the mines. The company is very active in Copper Basin today. A couple of wooden shacks from the old site remain, but most of the original buildings have succumbed to the company’s recent expansion.
