During the early 1890s, the Pony Express used Diamond Springs as a station along the way. After the passing of the Pony Express, the Overland Stage and Mail Company used the site that also served as a telegraph station. After the stage stopped running, the station house was left to disintegrate. The small town of Diamond City was formed during the mid-1860s. Silver discoveries were made in 1864 but production did not begin until 1866. The primary producer was the Champion Mine. Most mining in the area ended in the late 1870s. A few residents stayed on until 1884 when the town was abandoned. A visit to Diamond Springs and Diamond City is a must for there is much to see.
