GOLD FLAT

NAME: Gold Flat
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Nice area.
REMAINS: Nothing.

The town was initially called Nixon after Nevada Senator George Nixon who had formed the Nixon Townsite Company. A few months later, in February 1905, the town’s name was changed to Gold Flat in an attempt to show how rich it was. But the name had more gold in it than did the surrounding hills and Gold Flat ceased to exist. Since the town consisted only of tents, there is nothing to show the place ever existed.
