There are few ranching complexes that have had the rich history for over 100 years as has Illipah. The ranch had its beginning soon after the boom at Hamilton began. It was purchased by a Confederate veteran, Captain William C. Moorman, who set up a toll road and tollgate along the “Narrows” heading from White River to Hamilton. The Moorman family made the Moorman Ranch a prosperous venture. Moorman Ranch continues to be an active ranch. Buildings from the 1800s remain and are in use at Illipah.
