Peavine is a ranching settlement that dates back to the 1870s. For many years it was a stop on the Belmont-Sodaville stage line. By 1881 the small settlement had a population of twenty-five and was home to miners and mill workers from the surrounding area. A disastrous fire in 1900 destroyed everything but the house. For many years the Peavine Ranch had a small supply store that served local prospectors and other ranches along Peavine Creek. The ranch has maintained a low-level existence with its population never exceeding twenty-five. It is still in operation today.
