PINTO

NAME: Pinto
COUNTY: White Pine
ROADS: 4WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Interesting country.
REMAINS: Not much.

Pinto was a milling camp rather than a mining camp. The mill was constructed in 1871 and processed ore from the Secret Canyon District and the Silverado (Pinto) District in White Pine County. A small camp of fifteen people lived near the mill. A school was built even though there were few children. The mill closed in 1884 and was dismantled and Pinto ceased to exist. Only hard to find foundations mark the site along U.S. 50.
