Rye Patch was a ranching and mining area in addition to providing water for the Hannapah mining District and for the town of Tonopah. Mining claims were never developed to any great extent. A small number of ranches in the rye Patch Wash are the sites of the only activity still taking place in the area. The residents of Tonopah are frequent visitors to a small recreational area that has been created.
