Steptoe City’s growth paralleled that of Mcgill. When McGill boomed or faded, Steptoe City Followed suit. The town was formed in the early 1890s and a post office opened in 1893. Within a year, a miners’ Union Hall, a school, saloons, dance halls, and a red- light district had been established. The town reached its peak in the 1920s when its population topped 150. A fire in 1926 destroyed most of the town and sealed Steptoe City’s fate. Some residents remained for many years until the post office closed in 1940. Nothing remains at Steptoe city.
