STONEWALL

NAME: Stone Wall
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Named for General Jackson
REMAINS: Nothing.

The town and the mountain were named for General Stonewall Jackson. There was a small silver strike on the north side of the mountain in August of 1904 that resulted in 150 people living in the town by the end of the year. The initial burst of activity quickly subsided and by the end of 1905 only a few residents were left. The town never recovered but there was a fair amount of activity on and off until 1926. The Stonewall area has been dead ever since the deposits were mined out. There is nothing left.
