WILSONS CAMP

NAME: Wilsons Camp
COUNTY: Nye
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Hot summer, cool winter.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime.
COMMENTS: Mining Camp
REMAINS: Nothing.

On the north slope of O’Donnell Mountain in 1904, prospectors discovered fairly rich gold and silver ore. Although the ore was rich, shipping was a problem. The roads to and from Wilson’s Camp were extremely primitive. The ore had to be sacked and brought out by horse. This obstacle hindered the camp’s development and by 1905, only five miners remained to work the mines. The camp did not become a complete ghost town until 1906, when everyone gave up hope. Only one wood building was ever built there. This was a one-story boarding house for the miners. Ten years after all activity ceased in the Wilson district, not a sign of the small camp remained.
