Brinkman was established as a major railroad and wheat shipping center in 1910. It had a bank, hotel, stores, grain elevators, and more. In the 1920's the school alone had 450 students. The bank moved to nearby Magnum in 1927 and a fire destroyed half the business district in 1929. Then the state highway missed the town by a mile during its construction in the 1930's further contributing to its decline. In 1965 the post office clised and by 1980 there were only 7 people left here.
