COMMENTS: The town name is a tribal term "Ugakhpa", which means "downstream people."
REMAINS: Few houses, new fire station, very few businesses.
Quapaw was first a farming community, but later was also a mining town when the Picher field opened up. The town took its name from the Quapaw Indian tribe. A post office was established June 9, 1897. After mining shut down, Quapaw's population went downhill as well. Submitted by: Steven McGinty
