BETHEL

NAME: Bethel
COUNTY: Polk
ROADS: 2WD
GRID: 1
CLIMATE: Same as Salem,Oregon.
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Anytime.
COMMENTS: Only two live in this once thriving town. The town is gone, only a school house that is being used as a church and the
cemetery remain. There is nothing to do
especially, but marvel about how a town
can disappear.
REMAINS: Only a school house remains.

Two early leaders in the Christian Churches,
Glen Owen Burnett and Amos Harvey each donated a portion of their Donation Land Claims to establish a town and a college. The college
building was constructed by a gigantic volunteer
crew on July 4, 1855. This was the first or
second college in Oregon. The town flourished, and then diminished as the college combined with the one at Monmouth and the railroad being built did not pass through town.
