BEST TIME TO VISIT: Anytime
COMMENTS: No residents, town was razed in the 1960's to make room for power sub-station. Lots of old cans, etc. in community dump. Eleven miles north of Prineville on Hwy 26, see power sub-station to the Eas, 1/2 mile.
REMAINS: community dump
A seldom mentioned town loacation, Lamonta was started around 1905 to service the local area ranches in North Crook County and never contained more than 50 residents. With the popularity of the autombile and being so close to Prineville, town eventually deserted as larger ranches absorbed smaller ones. Original traces of town was burned to make room for the new power substation. If you take a careful look around, you can see discards of normal daily life. Submitted by: Rodney Grant
