Ben Wheeler was a roaring oil town from 1880 until a fire destroyed most of the town in the late 1920's. At it's high point It boasted a population of around 2000 and was the home of not only it's own school system but also a colledge for women. The General store is owned by the family that helped build the town at the time of it's conception. A truely wonderful place to visit rich in history and southern flavor.
