COUNTY: Shelby

CLIMATE: Warm winter, hot summer
BEST TIME TO VISIT:
Best time to visit is in the late fall/winter
COMMENTS: The location is within 2 miles of the McClelland Community Church which is over 100 years old, and site is also within 10 miles of San Augustine, where you can see the well which is housed in what used to be Striplings Drug store, where Davy Crockett & his men drank from on their way to the Alamo!
REMAINS: No remains, except for a cemetery.

Hott was founded in the late 1800's off what is now Hwy 147. It was located in deep east Texas, between San Augustine, Texas & Shelbyville, Texas on the east side of Hwy 147, & the intersection of County Rd. 1097. At one time the post office for Shelby County was located there, as well as an elementary school & a country store, but the thick forest has reclaimed all. A cemetery on the west side of 147 is still present.
