COMMENTS: An auction for the sale of lots in the new town of Spurlin, a project of John L Spurlin, was held 21 November, 1908, in front of the Spurlin Depot Special trains from Stephenville and Hamilton brought people to the auction. The horseless carriage contributed to the demise of Spurlin.Gone are the railroad, stores, churches, and people.
REMAINS: Crumbling brick walls of the school.
Spurlin was a ranching community in northwestern Hamilton County four miles from Carlton, from which it received mail. The community had a church and a business in 1936. By the late 1980s Spurlin was no longer shown on maps. Claudia Hazlewood Submitted by: Michael D. Lucas
