Hello -
A friend and I hike to Beveridge from the Saline Valley side. It took just over one day to reach it. It was harder coming down the mountain than it was going up the mountain. It really was a fantastic hike I must say. Im glad I took the time to complet the journey. I'll probably never do it again do to the energies and time envolved. Plus I'm not in the shape I was back in the days of "YOUR". I know I could have hiked the trail in a sorter time. But I had an older fella and we both went in with heavy packs. I am fortunate because the both of us took several pictures of the camp and artifacts of the surrounding area.
A word of caution to you should you go. The steam which is in Beverage cyn. and goes through the center of the camp I would not drink from. Do to possible pullution of the water. For up in the camp are several sacks of what I believe to be cyanide powder which was used to proccess the findings. These sacks are relativly close or are in the stream its self. So beware!
We dispatched to Beverage in November of 1989 and the ice in our canteens froze at night. It was very cold but it was a good time of year for the adventure and travel in the desert.
It took us two attempts to reach Beverage. The first was from Burgess wells on top of the mountain. We where going to hike down to Beverage. We had to many people to move. But as quickly as we needed in the sort amount of time which we had we decided to abort the mission. But none the less we all had fun up there! This is when the friend and I decided to achived it by going up the west (Saline Valley) the following season before I went to Alaska.
