I have never heard of La Beau, and I'm fairly familiar with SD ghost towns. Unfortunately, the only good book on SD covers only Black Hills ghost towns. Could the place have been Indian related?
You might try the newspaper at Mobridge. They are usually helpful. Also, you might call the newspaper at Lemmon. (At least, they used to be very interested in local history.) Or try the Mobridge Library. Usually local Librarians are real treasure houses of information.
